CE1 – Safe Zone Training | CE2 – Designing a Review Service | CE3 – Treasures of the All of Us Research Data
CE4 – Open Science, Open Data | CE5 – Introduction to Cultural Humility
CE 1 – Safe Zone Training: LGBTQIA+ Awareness & Inclusivity (In-Person Only)Join your colleagues to discuss LGBTQIA+ inclusive language and practices in a safe learning space. Together, we will explore the basics of vocabulary, pronoun usage, gender and sexual identities, intersectionality, and privilege. Participants will engage in reflection, discussion, and scenario-based learning in an intensive, fast-paced session facilitated by librarians knowledgeable in Safe Zone training. Instructors: Brenda Linares and Emily Vardell
CE 2 – Designing a Review Service: Practical Guidance with Workflow Templates (In-Person Only)This course will provide practical guidance on designing a review service. Starting with writing a mission statement and establishing a logic model, the instructors will guide participants in developing a model for their own services. This will work for services run by solo librarians or teams. Participants will also be given example workflow and documentation templates following the PIECCESS framework for review projects. Finally, evaluation of the service will be considered through an assessment plan. Instructors: Margaret Foster and Emme Lopez
CE 3 – Treasures of the All of Us Research Data (In-Person Only)The All of Us Research Program is a National Institutes of Health funded initiative to capture and share comprehensive longitudinal health data with an emphasis on including the diversity of the U.S. population to accelerate inclusive health discoveries, reduce health disparities and promote health equity. Born out of the Precision Medicine Initiative, and with the stated goal of including data from one million or more participants reflecting the diversity of the United States, the program aims to facilitate the exploration of a wide range of diseases, both common and rare, and support democratizing research by including those typically underrepresented in biomedical research and making the data broadly accessible for research purposes. In support of these goals, the Interdisciplinary Guided Network for Investigation, Translation and Equity (IGNITE) was developed to work with the NIH to increase engagement by enhancing the use of the All of Us Research Program data, and working to connect minority researchers, from both academic institutions and community organizations, to the All of Us data workbench for conducting research projects that are improving the quality of life, and well-being of community members. This course will utilize the IGNITE Data Sandbox model for participants to interactively engage with and explore the available data from the publicly available data browser for the All of Us Research Program: https://databrowser.researchallofus.org/ Instructors: Lisa Connor, Stacy Johnson, Susan Strickland
CE 4 – Open Science, Open Data: There's an NLM Resource for That! (In-Person Only)Explore freely available tools and resources to support open science and open data. The class will provide a brief introduction to data science topics, terminologies, and resources. Topics will include AI in healthcare, explaining what natural language processing is, discussing HIPAA privacy requirements, and defining personally identifiable information (PII). This first part will provide a foundational understanding of open science data. Then move into the bulk of the class focusing on the NLM Scrubber and other examples of NLP models that can be used for clinical deidentification. In the third and final part, presenters will also introduce ways to share data through the NNLM data repository finder for NIH-funded researchers, the Data Pathways site for more ways you can continue learning, and the NLM Dataset Catalog for finding openly shared datasets. Participants will learn how to promote these tools at the librarians' institution and include them in already existing library instruction. The class will include handouts - product guides and informational materials - summarizing what they've learned. Instructors: Katie Pierce-Farrier and Peace Ossom
CE 5 – Introduction to Cultural Humility (Virtual - November 4, 2024)In this training session, the instructor will discuss how using a lens of cultural humility can help you become a better colleague and provider of library services to patron. We will look at connections between cultural humility, and explore the three pillar of cultural humility. At the end of this webinar, you will be empowered to begin your journey of cultural humility and to explore ways you can use the model of cultural humility in your library with colleagues and patrons. Instructor: Xan Goodman
